Do you use email in your business? The CAN-SPAM Act establishes requirements for all commercial email messages and gives recipients the right to have you stop emailing them.

The CAN-SPAM Act doesn’t just apply to bulk email. It covers all commercial messages and makes no exception for business-to-business email. ALL email must comply with the law.

The law creates tough penalties for violations. Each separate email in violation is subject to penalties up to $16,000. Violation of the law can be very costly, but compliance is easy.

CAN-SPAM Compliance requirements are: 1-Don’t use false/misleading header information, 2-Don’t use deceptive subject lines, 3-Identify the message as an ad, 4-Tell recipients where you are located, 5-Tell recipients how to opt-out of future emails, 6-Honor opt-out requests promptly, 7-Monitor what others are doing on your behalf.

Go to CAN-SPAM Act Compliance Guide For Business (FTC website) for a guide to your business requirements. Go to the FTC Business Center or call 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) for additional compliance information.
